Location: Phu Phiang District in Nan Province

          Wat Phra That Chae Haeng is another place not to be missed because of the advantage of good climate and location. It is also the important religious place in Nan Province and year of the Rabbit. Importantly, this temple will also impress you with the magnificent construction art in the north of Thailand.

The history of  Wat Phra That Chae Haeng


        From historical record or the chronicles of Nan said that in the year 1353, king Kar Muang who was governor of Wo Ra Na Khon sent technicians to join the construction of  the royal monastery in Sukhothai and then Phya Lue Thai donated 7 relics, Buddha amulet and Silver votive tablet 20 pieces each to king Kar Muang in return. He brought Buddha's relics to contain at Doi Phu Phiang Chae Haeng. This is called “Phra That Chae Haeng”. It is assumed to be about 600 years old.

        1The Grand Vihara - Inside the Grand Vihara, there is Lord Buddha as the principal Buddha statue, the attitude of subduing Mara and posture of the buddha is seated Buddha image. The statue is inspired by Thai Lu style, which looks absolutely gorgeous. 

      


       2. Phra Chao Than Jai Vihara - An artificial Lord Buddha’s footprints can be found there.

         4. The Naga Handrails - See the gorgeous statues of two Nagas. A broad walkway flanked by long balustrades leads up to the temple grounds. The lower end of the balustrades is topped with massive 4 meter high heads of the mythological Naga snake, the body of the serpent extending all the way up to the temple area.

         5. Chedi of Wat Phra That Chae Haeng - is commemorative love and relationships between Nan and Sukhothai in the past. It is a construction art that has been influenced by the construction of Phra That Hariphunchai Pagoda. The surrounding characteristics of the Phra That Phra That are covered with golden Jangko.

          Architectural art


                It features a 55 metre-high golden Chedi containing a holy Relic from Sukhothai. Over the Wihan’s door frames and on parts of the roofs are plaster designs in the shape of Naga, the great serpent, which represent the artistic best in local architecture.

          How to get there



               Phra That Chae Haeng temple is located in Ban Nong Tao, Muang Teed District, Phu Piang Sub-County, Nan Province. To get there, you should just use the Highway 1168 or Nan-Mae Chrim Road
